Every one has that someone they look up to for guidance and sometimes reassurance that anything is possible. I have multiple role models but the person that I especially look up to is Martin Luther King Jr. or more informally known as MLK. He was not afraid to speak his mind and advocate for what he believed in. His charismatic personality and evident wit helped him achieve many goals for African Americans. He fought for civil rights in a calm and nonviolent way, with rational and strategically planned motives. Martin Luther King was originally a Baptist Minister and he slowly climbed his way up into power. He led the first revolt of the African Americans, when he initiated the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which led to a rippling effect of standing up for civil rights. He later when on to lead the “March on Washington” where he gave his famous I have a Dream, speech.
Through out King’s life he accomplished numerous things for civil rights of African Americans and in repayment for his good deed he received the Nobel Peace Prize. He specifically received the award combating racial inequality through nonviolence. He was looked up to by many people and still is today. I could only hope I could achieve half the things he did in his lifetime. I consider him one of my role models without a doubt in my mind.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
