I had the opportunity to intern in UNICEF offices this summer. I commuted daily just like every other person waking up and going to work. (I felt quite grown-up if I do say so myself).
When I arrived the first day for some reason I wasn’t nervous until I reached the front door and I couldn’t help but wonder what was awaiting me on the 11th floor which I was told to report to. When I got there, I met one of the lovely people that I worked under. Valarie Hunter. She took inside and showed me around the office and where I would be reporting every day. The next day I met the other
I arrived everyday with a task to complete and I was always busy with something. I was able to use UNICEF databases as well as their resources to help them find ways to publicize and better matching gifts for the fund.
When I was in the offices I was able to meet with Kirsten Sheldon and Katia Stefanatou. They were both able to answer any questions that I had with my club that I have at the high school. I was also able to attend an intern breakfast where I met with the other interns and learned about what they were working on and their personal backgrounds.
Later in the week I met with the president of the U.S Fund for UNICEF,Caryl Stern. We had a chance to talk about this site as well as the club and some other things in the short period of time we had a meeting set for. I also had the chance to meet Mr Edward G. Lloyd Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF .
The environment was amazing. It was the only place that I had worked in and everyone was just as passionate about the same things as I was. I would work there again in a heart beat and with the same people. Who know’s maybe i have a future at the Unicef.
