I really don’t think it depends on the severity of substance abuse to be admitted to a rehabilitation center.
I lost a husband and daughter from both. As soon as you see there is a problem with alcohol or drug abuse, any professional treatment, including rehabs, gives your loved one a greater chance of survival. If you wait until it has gone on for too long, it could be their death. It was for my family members.
I’m an Awareness Coach to help the addicted and their families realize this is a killer.
First, I want to add one more comment. I feel that doctors and counselors should look into “why” a person is using more than the disease.
Second, family should “never” be left out of the patient’s treatment program. We were and no one could reach my daugher because she wouldn’t open up. If we had been involved, I, as her mother, would have been able to explain our past with living with an alcoholic husband and their father.
